Art Connection Members Show Key Dates, Thematic Challenge Announced
Online Registration will Begin Sept 16

About the Show
Since 2001, Irving Arts Center has held a non-juried exhibition featuring art created by our Art Connection members. During this show, artwork by professional and non-professional artists hangs side by side in the beautiful Main Gallery and the adjoining Focus Gallery. Existing and new Art Connection members are invited to submit art for this year’s show being held Nov 1-August 22 . Awards will be given in three categories (Youth, Nonprofessional and Professional) as well as an overall Best of Show.

Key Dates

 ● Online registration for artwork begins: Sept. 16

● Artwork Drop Off: Oct. 25 – 26 (pieces must be registered online prior to drop off)

● Exhibit dates: Nov. 1 – 22, 2025

● Reception & Awards Ceremony: Sunday, Nov. 2, 2 – 4PM

● Artwork pickup: Nov. 23, 2 – 4PM

Thematic Challenge:  XXV: Then / Now / Next
Members are invited to create artwork that reflects on the theme “XXV: Then / Now / Next” marking the 25th anniversary of the Irving Arts Center’s Art Connection Members Show. Participating artists are invited to reflect on time (25 years ago, today, and 25 years from now) and explore how they, their art, or the world has changed and what might come next.

JumpstART Stories & Art:
Hats off to Fall!
Sept 4 @ 10AM  I  FREE

September is National Hat Month. Join us for a free story time and art activity where we celebrate the changing of the seasons with a tribute to this most functional and fashionable of accessories. After story time, we’ll get creative and decorate our own headwear!

Second Sunday Funday / Open Studio for Teens
Exploring Folk & Outsider Art
Sept 14 from 1-4PM I  FREE

Drop in any time between 1 and 4PM for art fun for all ages! Inspired by the artists featured in the Arts Center’s exhibition Rooted Visions, you will be able to transform found objects and ordinary materials into extraordinary works of art to tell your own story.

6th Annual Volunteer Fair
October 4 from 2-4PM I  FREE

Looking for a way to get involved and give back to your community? Join us on Saturday, October 4 from 2 to 4PM to connect with local nonprofits. Learn about the many great organizations, and the opportunities that they offer for community involvement by attending.

Sip, Snack & Create: A Toast to Teachers (Educator Resource & Appreciation Event)
October 5 from 1-4PM

The Irving Department of Arts & Culture invites educators to celebrate and create on Sunday, Oct. 5 at Irving Arts Center. This fun and informal afternoon will feature brunch bites, mimosas, tours of the galleries, and artmaking. Drop in between 1 and 4 PM to join us as we explore the current exhibition, Rooted Visions.

Details of old railroad cars and the variegated, husk-covered surface of palm trees are the focus of approximately 30 photographs and screen prints included in the exhibition Beauty is Not Always Pretty: Recent Photographs & Prints by Bill Thompson.

The Dance Lives On features a body of work by ceramics artist Amy Branch-Lambert that explores her brother’s life through the greater project of the National AIDS Memorial Quilt.

Through October 25 in the Carpenter Lobby Gallery
Artist Reception: Sept 19 from 6-8PM
Rooted in the rhythms of the natural world, this exhibition draws from the enigmatic beauty of sea anemones, creatures that blur the line between flower and predator.
Through vivid color and intricate pattern, each piece explores the emotional terrain of human connection and the delicate balance between what is seen and what is felt.
Rooted Visions
Through October 18 in the Main Gallery

Through works by 25 Southern Black artists, Rooted Visions explores themes of resilience, storytelling, and the transformative power of creativity.
We’ve Been Framed
Through Sept 27 in the Courtyard Gallery

We’ve Been Framed features artwork created by volunteers in the Department of Arts & Culture.
