Rockwall Summer Musicals Presents West Side Story: A Timeless Message of Unity for Today’s World

ROCKWALL, Texas — Rockwall Summer Musicals is proud to present West Side Story June 19-28, 2026, bringing one of America’s most beloved musicals to local audiences while highlighting a message that remains as relevant today as when it first premiered nearly seven decades ago.

Featuring a talented cast of young performers from across the community, West Side Story tells the powerful story of two young people whose love transcends the divisions and prejudices that separate their families and friends. Through unforgettable music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, the production explores themes of understanding, acceptance, and the courage to see beyond differences.

“In a time when our communities and our nation often feel divided, West Side Story reminds us that compassion, understanding, and human connection are stronger than fear and prejudice,” said  Alan Peterson, Director of Productions. “This story continues to speak to audiences of all ages because its message is universal: we have more in common than what separates us.”

As a nonprofit organization dedicated to training the next generation of performers, Rockwall Summer Musicals is using this production as an opportunity to engage young artists in meaningful conversations about empathy, respect, and the importance of building bridges between people from different backgrounds.
