ACRYLIC NIGHT – Let’s paint or pour on pumpkins! Oct. 5

Get ready for the fall season, Halloween and Thanksgiving, by decorating some of these iconic gourds. Doors open at 6:30 pm – free session is 7-9pm at the Jaycee Park Center for the Arts, 1975 Puritan Dr. in Irving. Sponsored by the Irving Art Association.

RSVP to [email protected] or on our Meetup site (accounts at Meetup.com are free.)

IAA’s Open Art sessions are free, but supplies are required.

Supplies: Bring pumpkins, real or fake, or gourds or decorative squashes, etc. Or you can do something like decorating or pouring paint on a clay pot if you don’t want to do pumpkins.

You’ll need paint (acrylic is best), paint pens (optional), sharpies (optional), brushes, newspaper (for the mess), whatever other supplies you need, apron etc. If doing pouring, see the list of supplies below.

BRING YOUR IDEAS: I’ll supply some ideas or you can steal some by going to my Pinterest board Holidaze at https://www.pinterest.com/sharongiles/holidaze/ . You can follow the links on the pins to find out how the pumpkins are done.

About ACRYLIC NIGHT:
We’re dedicating this night to acrylic paint. You can paint with it, do printmaking or gelli printing, pour it, create art journal pages etc. Your choice.

If you’re a newbie in a certain technique, post a comment about the type of assistance you’d like. We’ll do our best to assist.

We’ll repeat first Friday night of each month.

Our sessions are free but bring your own supplies.

Basic Supplies:
acrylic paint & medium
paper or canvas or art journal
paper towels and/or baby wipes
brushes & tools (mark-making tools, stamps & stencils are useful)
water container
palette or paper plates

if doing pouring, you will also need a pouring medium (Floetrol or Liquitex Pouring Medium, etc.), silicone or dimethicone (optional), paper or plastic cups, mixing tools such as craft sticks, and cardboard or pans for moving your wet painting.

If doing acrylic printmaking, you will also need a gelli plate and brayer. If you don’t have this equipment, you may borrow one but please send an email request to [email protected]. Also useful: stencils, stamps, and mark-making tools.
