The City of Lewisville invites residents to meet the artists of its latest public art pieces on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 11 a.m., and 7 p.m., in the Art Gallery of Medical City Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles Street.
As part of the Main and Mill Corridor streetscape project, the City has
hired May + Watkins Designs to create a series of one-of-a-kind art
benches that capture historical aspects and occurrences in Lewisville.
It is the intent of the Arts Advisory Board that the four benches be
used to tell a single coherent story related to the history and
development of Old Town Lewisville.
Carol May and Tim Watkins will be in Lewisville to show residents
various concept sketches, talk about their ideas, and solicit feedback.
Two of the benches will be approximately eight feet long, and the other
two will be approximately 10 feet long in order to add a bicycle
accommodation (such as a bike rack) that is integrated with and
compatible with the rest of the bench.
All four art benches will be placed on Main Street east of Mill Street,
three on the south side and one on the north side. All four benches will
face away from the street toward a standard six-foot concrete sidewalk.
May + Watkins Designs is based in New York and has implemented public
art around the country for more than 20 years. Examples of their
previous public art pieces can be found at maywatkinsdesign.com.
The Main and Mill Corridor Project includes paving, drainage, landscape,
and signalization improvements on Main Street, Mill Street, and the
Charles Street intersections at Main and Church. Construction along Main
Street is expected to start the week of January 14.

To reach MCL Grand from I-35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main
Street to Charles Street. MCL Grand will be on the left. Free public
parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville
