Big and Bold Flowers Et Cetera
It has become a bit of a tradition to do a flowers class in May to celebrate “April showers bringing May flowers”. In keeping with tradition we will do big bold flowers again this year. I will do demos in watercolor but you may bring other mediums to work in if you wish. We will be doing some paint behind techniques so be sure if you are working in acrylic or oil bring transparent colors, ZINC WHITE and plenty of medium to mix with. (If in doubt about transparency of the color look on the tube it should tell you in very fine print) If you are still not sure email me and I can tell you. If you are not into flowers bring some slightly abstracted articles such as buildings, sailboats, bugs, animals that are light in color to work from.
If you want to see some negative painting examples look up Brenda Swenson or Linda Kemp.

Figurative Abstract
Our Figurative Abstract class is coming up very soon. Wednesday May 29, 2019 at 9:30 am. The morning will be filled with short discussion and an organized class project. The afternoon will be open for each student to interpret what we have covered in their own project. In preparation please look up the following artists on the web to get an idea of where we are going with this class…..Historically: Pablo Piccaso, Elaine and Wilhelm De Kooning, Arshile Gorky, Edvard Munch, Jasper Johns, Henri Matisse and Rene Margritte. Also, political cartoons are a good idea source. Though not all these artists are considered abstract artists please note how each one approaches the human or animal figure as something other than a direct “realistic” representation of the figure. Also, look up some of these contemporary artists working with partially abstracted approach to figurative art. Jylian Gustlin, Alex Katz, Shelby McQuilkin, George Condo, Robert Burridge, Pamela Sunstrum, Ryan Hewett, Becky Kolsrud, Gregory Calibey and Mark Demsteader.
