Proposals for the 2020-2021 Exhibition Program are due FRIDAY, MAY 1, 2020 (12 PM – Central Standard Time)

Lawndale is pleased to announce an open call for submissions from artists and curators locally, regionally, and nationally for our traditional galleries, Sculpture Garden, and other non-traditional sites including the elevator, stairwells, windows, and other forms of intervention.

Exhibitions selected through this open call will be programmed by invitation through Fall 2020-Winter 2021. Applicants will be notified by email in early June 2020

The Big Show is an ambitious exhibition of new work by artists practicing within a 100-mile radius of Lawndale.

Eligibility

• The Big Show is open to artists living within a 100-mile radius of Lawndale. • Each artist may submit up to 3 original artworks completed between January 2019 to present. • Work must fit through the 6′ 9″ x 4′ 11″ entryway and cannot exceed 200 pounds in weight. • Works previously exhibited in Houston will be disqualified. • All works must be exhibition ready and include proper hanging hardware. Works that are not stable enough to endure the exhibition may not be eligible. • All works must be available for the duration of the exhibition.

We celebrate short films of all kinds! Now in its 23rd year, the Extremely Shorts Film Festival is a juried competition of all genres of short films and videos (3 minutes or less) from around the world.

Extremely Shorts is organized by Houston media arts organization Aurora Picture Show, and juried by guest artists, filmmakers, and curators. Each year, 20-25 short works are selected to screen at the two-day festival, held in late-May. The short format of the festival encourages innovative approaches to filmmaking in a range of genres including narrative, experimental, documentary, and animation.

The guest juror for the upcoming 2020 festival is Mexico City-based artist and writer Miguel Calderón.

If submitting video or audio work, artist must supply all required electronic equipment

Artwork cannot be shipped to the gallery. All work must be dropped off by the artist

All proceeds from entry fees will go toward the Juror’s Choice honorarium award at the opening reception

Juror’s choice will also be awarded a solo show at 500X Gallery during the 2020-2021 season

Name of Call: SEISMIQUE IS LOOKING FOR TALENTED ARTISTS!

Seismique (seis • mick) is looking for artists to submit proposals for their unique design to fill out 10 to 12 of its upcoming galaxies (areas) in the permanent art museum space located on Houston’s west side at 2306 South Highway 6 when it opens this fall.

We are looking for artists who create interactive environments, immersive experiences, and a place for art to be enjoyed with those experiencing it. Additionally, submissions must be space and intergalactic themed to continue with the Seismique design. Please submit your proposal if you are excited to work with Seismique under these expectations.

In conjunction with the City of Sugar Land, Bud Light, Coca-Cola, and Outlaw Nation are proud to present the Houston Music & Arts Festival, at spectacular Crown Festival Park, on April 4 and 5, 2020. This event is located in the affluent west Houston suburbs of Fort Bend County, an excellent customer demographic for fine and contemporary art. Glasstire is pleased to announce the 2020 San Antonio Glasstire Art Writing Prize, a competitive award designed to find and highlight emerging arts writers in Texas. This is the third year of the Prize, which will focus on the San Antonio region this spring. Glasstire also plans to host the third North Texas Prize in the fall of 2020. (It will eventually be Texas-wide.) The winner of the Prize will be awarded $2,500, and their work will be published on Glasstire. In addition, they will be honored at a cocktail party on May 7, 2020 in San Antonio.

The Galveston Artist Residency is pleased to announce an Open Call for applications for the 2020 – 2021 Residency Year. We will be awarding 3 residency grants for the time period of September 1, 2020 through August 1, 2021. Residencies are for the full 11 months.

The residency is intended as a gift of time for the development of your practice. We are looking for visual artists that are at a point in their life where they need to focus on their work and will benefit from a period of intense studio time.
