BCA Webinar Aug. 20: Arts & Health

Arts & Health
The Artist as Patient

How can the arts empower us — as artists, patients and caregivers — to navigate the challenges associated with serious health conditions, particularly movement disorders like Parkinson’s? What’s the impact of illness and recovery on the artist and their creative process? How can art help create lasting, therapeutic change in our lives?

Join us for an exploration of the artist as patient. We’ll be joined by renowned artist Jerry Skibell (Skibell Art) and Madhavi Thomas, MD (Texas Institute of Neurological Disorders).

Our Experts:
Jerry Skibell: Local artist Jerry Skibell received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin in 1968. As a successful commercial real estate developer, he has consistently kept up his artwork from his expansive home studio and has shown his paintings, drawings and prints in various galleries and art shows throughout Texas and New Mexico.

Madhavi Thomas, MD: Dr. Madhavi Thomas earned her Medical School diploma at Andhra Medical College in India and underwent postgraduate training in the United Kingdom in Internal Medicine and Subspecialties including Neurology. She established a dedicated center for movement disorders for mid-cities in the DFW area and successfully ran the center from 2010 to 2020.
