Non-Toxic Printmaking

Intrigued with printmaking? Concerned about technical process? This class allows you to experience the basics through a non-toxic approach. The class will also demystify the world of printmaking through practice, allowing the artist to continue without or with a press. Our focus will cover relief printing, drypoint etching and monotype. Each process will improve your knowledge of simple registration, increase your understanding and ability to layer colors, create a collection of limited-edition original prints.  No matter your artistic skill level, or preferred medium, introducing the basics of printmaking will enhance your creativity. You will learn:

  • About three historic printing processes
  • How to choose the correct paper
  • Basic elements of design

What is Relief Printing

Block print, woodcut, linocut, stone rubbing, even your common rubber stamp is a relief print. Whether you are a beginning student or experienced printmaker, you explore several carving materials while learning how to transform your ideas into a strong graphic image.  As always, our focus is on promoting a non-toxic practice, and give you the ability to continue this process outside the studio with commonly found tools.  You will learn:

  • Skills and understanding of the ancient process of relief printing
  • How to choose the correct paper
  • Basic elements of design
