Mariell Guzman’s Taste of Your Texas mural – Ribbon cutting June 1st in Deep Ellum

Artist Mariell Guzman collaborated with Pepsi for their “The Taste of Your Texas’” campaign, and was chosen by Pepsi to amplify the vibrant spirit and diverse stories that could only be found here in Texas. She is set to unveil a playful, vivid mural for the Deep Ellum neighborhood at Pepe’s and Mito’s, which will radiate joy and inspire people of all ages and backgrounds.

WHAT:
Ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil new community mural celebrating the intersecting cultures and landscapes of Texas and Mexico by Dallas artist Mariell Guzman. The mural is a vivid and playful addition to the Deep Ellum neighborhood that radiates joy and will inspire people of all ages and backgrounds. Free tacos and Pepsi beverages for the first 100 guests from Pepe’s and Mito’s, Deep Ellum mainstay and host of the mural, immediately following the unveiling. Locals and visitors alike are encouraged to take photos at the event and in front of the mural and tag their photos on social media using #TasteOfMyTexas.

WHO:
Mariell Guzman: Proudly born and raised in Mexico among a tight-knit family of creative spirits, 26-year-old Guzman brings her art—created in brilliant color—to her new, beloved home in Dallas. The mural will be the artist’s inaugural in Deep Ellum — a milestone she describes as one of her biggest dreams. The mural also represents Mariell’s first time blending the influences she’s had growing up in two different cultures and manifests how their landscapes, communities and cultures have shaped her as an artist.
Pepe’s & Mito’s Mexican Cantina: A local, Deep Ellum neighborhood fixture for homestyle fare, serving Pepsi for over 31 years.
Pepsi Taste of Your Texas: Guzman is one of four Texas Tastemakers in Pepsi’s “The Taste of Your Texas” campaign, which celebrates the unbridled spirit of the Lone Star State. The mini documentary series, shot by filmmaker Matt Rainwaters, tells the unique stories of Texans blazing their own trails in food, music, art and sports. Along with Guzman, “The Taste of Your Texas” video series also features Austin barbecue trailer pitmaster Miguel Vidal and pitmaster apprentice Eliana Gutierrez of Valentina’s Tex-Mex BBQ; Houston rapper Fat Tony; and the 2019-2020 Miss Rodeo Texas, Boerne’s Jordan Maldonado.
