City of Grand Prairie’s traffic signal box art project – call for artists

The City of Grand Prairie is now accepting applications for the Traffic Signal Box Art Project. 10 finalists will be chosen this year. The application form can be found at:

https://www.gptx.org/about-us/public-art/traffic-signal-box-art-project

This is the third time that we are doing this project. Texas artists may apply.

This project includes up to 10 TSBs and is open to concepts for direct painting on the TSBs or for high-resolution, digitally printed wraps to be applied to the TSBs. The themes this year include:

1)‘The Environment’
2) ‘Hearts”
3) ‘Purple Martins and Native Birds’.

Successful proposals will feature depictions of the natural environment that may include nature, lakes, animals, butterflies, prairies, wildflowers or other landscaping scenes. Artists may also submit proposals based on “Hearts” indicating love, kindness, unity, openness, acceptance, and friendship; as well as Grand Prairie being the heart of the Metroplex. The third category is ‘Purple Martins and Native Birds’. Grand Prairie is the official Purple Martin Conservation Capital of Texas. Visit Purple Martin Landlords of North Texas for more information.

Proposals can be playful but must not include images of people. All artwork must be the original work of the artists. See the Design Criteria section for more information.

The sample boxes depicted in this call were specifically chosen to give examples of the quality of artwork we hope to see on the TSBs.
