Recountable exhibition and photography show by Essie Graham open July 2nd at the Bath House

Recountable is a mixed media art exhibition that features sixteen visual artists from the DFW Metroplex and one artist from Austin.  The show features works of art in many styles and techniques that demonstrate the powerful impact of storytelling and the visual image when they are used by artists who are interested in creating and communicating personal and universal narratives that evoke emotions and spark the viewers’ imagination.

Although all types of art have the ability to tell a story, including abstract artwork, this show focuses primarily on art pieces that are strongly narrative in nature.  In various creative ways, the artists in this exhibition assume their role as visual chroniclers and they share and recount meaningful stories and ideas with an eloquent and passionate spirit.

The artists participating in this show are Chibuzo Amajor, Reuben Cheatem, Ron Crouch, Nick Glenn, Lisa Huffaker, Assandre Jean-Baptiste, Romulo Martinez, Adriane McMillon, Eliana Miranda, Cindy Nguyen, Tippi Polo, Amani Sodiq-Odunaiya, William Toliver, Robert Weiss, Becky Wilkes and Ziesook You.

This exhibition was curated by Enrique Fernández Cervantes.

People, Places, Things: Artwork by Essie Graham

graham

The photography-based works in this exhibition by North Texas artist, Essie Graham, weave thru a variety of people, places and things that surrounds us in our daily lives. Some of the characters that appear on Essie’s work seem familiar because we have seen or heard of them before.  Other subjects are not as recognizable, but they command a powerful presence, nevertheless.

The artist finds inspiration in her physical environment, and she depicts locations and settings that she and some of the viewers have seen before, as well as worlds created through her image manipulation that many people wish that they could visit.

Essie is not only interested in human and environmental subjects.  She is also attracted to the everyday objects that we see and often fail to observe carefully.   The artist finds beauty and awe in the textures, shadows, lines, colors, contrast, and complexity of the frequently overlooked ordinary things.
