Art on the Square Gallery
113 W. Franklin Street
Waxahachie, TX 75165
Beginner through advanced participants accepted. Students will work from landscape photographs, preferably from personally taken photos (but not required.) Color use will be emphasized by practicing making a few color charts (optional.) The use of complementary color underpainting will be taught to create strong contrast. The Design and Organizing principles will be emphasized, including composition, texture, repetition , variety and balance. The element of value will be taught by having students draw from their photos , identifying at least 5 values from light to dark. This will prepare them to have a map to go by when executing their painting. Students will complete a mid sized painting over the 3 day workshop, or they may paint two smaller paintings if they choose. Students can work in oil or in acrylic. Dudics will give demonstrations each day at the start of class. Students will be exposed to contemporary and historical landscape paintings for motivation.
