Craighead Green Gallery

What does Texas look like through the eyes of its next generation of artists?
For 33 years, New Texas Talent has provided a platform for emerging artists working outside the traditional gallery system. As one of the state’s longest-running juried exhibitions dedicated exclusively to unrepresented artists, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity for artists to gain visibility among collectors, curators, critics, and the broader arts community while introducing audiences to new artistic positions shaping the future of Texas art.
This year’s exhibition received a record-breaking number of submissions, with 572 artists from across Texas submitting more than 1,500 artworks for consideration. From this unprecedented pool, juror Daisha Board selected 50 works for inclusion in the exhibition. The resulting presentation offers a compelling cross-section of contemporary artistic practice, revealing the breadth of ideas, materials, and perspectives currently shaping the state’s cultural landscape.
Daisha Board is the Founder and Director of Daisha Board Gallery in Dallas, recognized by D Magazine as Best Art Gallery in Dallas in both 2022 and 2023. She is also the Founder of Black Sheep Art Culture, a nonprofit organization dedicated to amplifying historically underrepresented voices through exhibitions, public art initiatives, educational programming, and artist development opportunities. Throughout her career, Board has curated more than forty exhibitions and facilitated acquisitions by major institutions and corporate collections nationwide.
Board approached the selection process with a clear vision:
“I am looking for works that speak volumes, works that speak to lineage, history, ancestry, joy and pain. I am full of excitement to represent underrepresented artists.”
The exhibition arrives at a moment when conversations surrounding identity, community, memory, place, and belonging continue to shape the cultural fabric of Texas. Rather than offering a singular narrative, New Texas Talent 33 presents a compilation of perspectives, reflecting the rich cultural landscape throughout the state.
Visitors will encounter artists working across painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, installation, and other disciplines, each bringing a distinct point of view. Together, the selected works reveal the concerns, aspirations, and creative energy emerging from studios throughout Texas today.
Beyond the exhibition itself, New Texas Talent serves as an important point of entry into the professional art world. Artists featured in previous iterations of the exhibition have gone on to receive gallery representation, museum exhibitions, public art commissions, and significant regional and national recognition. The exhibition and its participants have also been featured in publications including Patron Magazine, The Dallas Morning News, D Magazine, Dallas Observer, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Arts+Culture Magazine, and many others.
Since its founding, New Texas Talent has become more than an annual exhibition. It serves as a recurring snapshot of a changing artistic landscape, documenting how each generation of artists responds to its moment in time. By creating meaningful exposure for artists who have yet to secure gallery representation, the exhibition continues its longstanding mission of identifying and supporting the next generation of artistic talent in Texas.
The future of Texas art is not waiting to be discovered. It is already here.
